Police, EMS and local fire departments responded to a fire at the Charleston Residence in Lake Louise on Monday afternoon.

The Charleston residence was believed to be housing around 200 people who have now been left displaced. RCMP said they assisted the fire department with notifying and evacuating the Charleston Residence Hotel due to a fire.

“Buses are transporting people to a muster point at Lake Louise ski hill where resources will be available,” said RCMP. Reports says one person was assessed and taken to the hospital following the fire.

The Communication Director at Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola, Dan Markham said “it is quite likely that the entire building will be lost.” Temporary accommodations have been provided for the displaced people.

“We are shocked and devastated by today’s fire that destroyed our Charleston Residence”, the resort wrote on Facebook. “Our thoughts are with those affected by this terrible incident. In this challenging time, we are united as a community, working to support our staff members who have lost their homes.”

“As a result, the Summer Gondola will be closed for the next two days. Our parking lots and shuttle services will still be available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and patience during this situation.”

“We are committed to providing assistance and resources to our amazing staff. Thank you for everyone’s support; it means the world to us as we navigate through this terrible situation. Together we will rise above this challenge and emerge stronger than ever.”

A clothing drive was held at the Lake Louise Inn for residents.
