Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued a warning to Calgarians that a person with lab-confirmed measles has been in public settings in Calgary while infectious.
The health agency says residents who have been in the same locations as the infected individual between Dec. 11 and Dec. 17, 2024 may have been exposed.
Individuals who were at the WestJet Flight WS – 1553 from Seattle, Washington to Calgary, Alberta Calgary International Airport (YYC) Gate D89 5:55pm – 7:55pm, International baggage claim area 6pm – 8:30pm, International arrivals waiting area 6:30pm to 8:50pm on Dec 11, 2024 may have been exposed, says AHS.
On Dec 14, Individuals who were at the Real Canadian Superstore Westwinds (Unit 100, 3633 Westwinds Drive NE) may have been exposed. AHS says exposure time is approximately 3pm to 7pm.
Also, individuals who were at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Emergency Department (28 Oki Drive, NW) on Dec 15, may have been exposed between 12:38 am to 10:47pm. Alberta Children’s Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Department between 10:24am to 12:24pm.
Lastly, if you visited Alberta Children’s Hospital , Unit 4 between Dec. 15 8:47pm to Dec. 17 10:08pm you may have been exposed to measles.
AHS says anyone who attended those locations during those times and was born in or after 1970 and has less than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine, who are pregnant, under one year of age or have a weakened immune system are at risk and should call Health Link at 811.
“Anyone who attended these locations at these times is strongly encouraged to review their immunization records and monitor themselves for symptoms of measles”, says AHS.
“Symptoms of measles may include fever of 38.3° C or higher; cough, runny nose and/or red eyes; and a red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after fever starts, beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down the body and then to the arms and legs.”
