A 40-year-old man Lake Louise man has been charged with arson and possession of a weapon in relation to the Charleston residence fire.
The Charleston residence went up in flames on Monday afternoon, destroying the entire building which used to house almost 200 staff members. Lake Louise RCMP said the man was found on the roof, with a knife, when they arrived at the scene.
Reports says the man was convinced to come down, but he slipped on a ladder and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The man was arrested and charged following an investigation by the police.
The man, identified as Timothy Alexander Peterson, of Lake Louise was charged with arson and possession of a weapon. Peterson has now been remanded into custody and will appear in court on July 7, 2023.
The Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola said they have been able to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the fire. “At this stage, we have enough general clothing on site to our staff and our distribution centre is currently full,” they wrote on their official Facebook page.
The resort also said they have been asked “to bring to people’s attention an emergency relief fund set up by the Banff Canmore Community Foundation.”
