Alberta continues to provide support for evacuees from the Northwest Territories, fleeing the wildfires.

An Alberta woman, Sienna Kellar, who was a former resident of Yellowknife, along with seven others are helping to move animals safely from the city. Ms. Kellar is a professional horse trainer currently living in Innisfail, Alta. She owns her own barn, North Hart Equestrian.

She reportedly learnt to ride at North Country Stables in Yellowknife and has been in contact with the owners. Reports by CBC says Kellar “got a message describing the wildfire approaching the city, and their stables. The fire was about 16 kilometers from their barn.”

“You don’t want those horses to die”, she told CBC. With the help of friends and family, Kellar helped to save 22 animals, which includes horses, goats, donkeys and mini ponies.

Meanwhile, Environment and Climate Change has issued an air quality statement for Calgary due to Wildfire smoke. They are asking residents to be cautious and reduce exposure.
