The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has issued a public safety alert for Calgarians after a naked man assaulted a woman.
According to a news release, the unknown man approached a group of three young women and sexually assaulted one of them last weekend. “At approximately 10:10pm, on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, the group of women, who were at a residence in the 900 block of Ridge Road S.W., noticed a suspicious black truck occupied by an unknown man parked directly across the street, who appeared to be watching the residence between 10:10 pm & 11pm.”
Police says the women left the residence at approximately 11pm.
On their way back, at around 12:55am, the women walked through Elbow Park, west of 32 Avenue & Eighth Street S.W., along a pathway to Pitt Avenue & Ridge Road S.W. This was when the unknown nude man suddenly grabbed one of them in a sexual nature.
“The man proceeded to pin one of the other women down to the ground. Two of the women were able to escape and run back to the residence where they called police”, says CPS.
Officers arrived at the scene around 1:05 am and found the third woman walking back home. After speaking with the women, police said they continued to do door knocks in the area. They also used HAWCS and Canine Unit in their search, but could not locate the man.
The man is described as Caucasian with dark hair, and facial hair.
CPS says the warning was issued in belief that it is in the public interest to inform Calgarians about the incident. “Members of the public are advised that the intent of the warning is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action”, says the News Release.
Police is asking anyone with information to call 403-266-1234 or drop anonymous tips on Crime Stoppers.
