Calgary Man Wanted on Warrants for Sexual Assault

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is asking the public for help to locate a man who is wanted on warrants for sexually assaulting a woman in downtown Calgary earlier this month.

According to a CPS news release, at around 6:30am on Sunday, Nov.3, 2024, a woman was walking in the area of Sixth Avenue S.W. and 10 Street S.W., when she was approached by an unknown man who threatened her with a weapon.

“The victim attempted to flee and took shelter in a nearby apartment vestibule, however the man followerd her. Once inside the vestibule, he once again threatened her with a knife and then sexually assaulted her.”

“The suspect fled on foot shortly before Calgary Transit peace officers located the victim and contacted police.”

Following the investigation, officer have identified the man as Karmal Ismai, 33, of Calgary. Police describes him as approximately 5’11 tall, around 155 pounds, with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.

Ismail is wanted on warrants for sexual assault with a weapon and forceable confinement, says the news release.

Police is asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Ismail to call 403-266-1234 or drop anonymous tips on Crime Stoppers.
