Charges Laid After Police Seize Guns, $73k in Drugs from Downtown Calgary Encampment

Calgary Police Service (CPS) have charged five people after locating prohibited firearms and over $73,000 in drugs at a downtown encampment.

According to a news release by the police, officers of CPS Mountain Bike Unit were completing a trespassing check and check on welfare at an encampment on private property located in the 600 block of First Street S.E. on Tuesday, Dec 19, around 9:10 am.

Upon arrival, the officers found 290 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $23,208; 333.5 grams of fentanyl, with an estimated street value of $50,025; 20.7 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, with an estimated street value of $225; one loaded, sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, three loaded 9-mm handguns with 3D-printed receivers and restricted extended capacity magazines and one prohibited switchblade-style knife.

Investigations have led to the arrest of three men and two women who have also been charged with a combined 116 charges. 48-year-old Lance Little Light, 28-year-old Carleen Healy, 34-year-old Trinity Healy, 45-year-old Shawnawa Firstrider and 24-year-old Levi Bruyere have all been charged.

They all face multiple charges for possession, including possession for dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon, loaded prohibited firearm, a firearm when prohibited from doing so by judicial order, proceeds to crime and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

All except, Lance Little Light is scheduled to appear in court in January 17, 2024. Light will be appearing in court on December 22, 2023.

“This incident underscores the importance of addressing encampments early. We work closely with our community partners to ensure we are always leading with compassion and services; however, enforcement is still a critical component of ensuring public safety”, said Acting Staff Sgt. Michael Anderson of the Calgary Police Service in the new release.

The police are asking Calgarians to report any instances of suspicious behavior or criminal activity by calling 403-266-1234 or drop anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
