Calgary Police have released the identity of the man found dead in a southeast hotel on Monday. His death has now been deemed a homicide.

Recall that Africanpride Magazine reported that “officers were called to a hotel in the 0-100 block of Shawville Road S.E., around 3 p.m., on Monday, March 25, for reports of a shooting. A man was reportedly found in one of the suites on the fourth floor and was declared dead.”

Following an autopsy completed on Tuesday, March 26, police have identified the victim as 29-year-old Liban Abdirahman. “Investigators believe this is a targeted incident that occurred in the suite where the man was found and presented no risk to other hotel guests” said a news release by the police.

“Our homicide unit is in the process of speaking with witnesses, gathering information and reviewing CCTV footage. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Police says the person that was taken into custody at the scene has since been released without charge. Abdirahman’s death is reportedly Calgary’s fourth homicide of 2024.
