Napoli has finally ended their long wait to win Italy’s Serie A when Victor Osimhen scored the winning goal on Thursday at the Darcia Arena, Udine. The game ended with a 1-1 draw at Udinese, helping Napoli secure their third league title.
The Nigerian forward scored the decisive goal in the second half, ending a 33-year wait for Napoli. Osimhen scored as Napoli’s current stars came back from trailing to Sandi Lovric’s opener at half-time.
Osimhen’s @victorosimhen9 record breaking goal is his 22nd in 28 league appearances. He has had the best season of his career and been key to Napoli’s historic charge to glory. Napoli are 16 points clear of second-placed Lazio with 15 maximum points left to fight for, meaning they have a month-long parade between now and the end of the season.
To celebrate the win, fans poured onto the pitch when the referee blew the full-time whistle. “Seeing Neapolitans happy is enough to give you a sense of that joy they are feeling”, Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti told DAZN after the game.
“These people will look to this moment when life gets hard, they have every right to celebrate like this. You feel a bit more relaxed knowing that you’ve given then this moment of happiness.”
