British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, defeated Robert Helenius in the seventh round at the 02 Arena in London on Saturday.
Helenius was the last minute replacement for Dillian Whyte, after Whyte returned adverse analytic finding in the pre-fight testing. This left Joshua looking for a last minute replacement which Helenius made himself available for.
The former heavyweight champion has scored his first knockout win since December 2020 when he defeated Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev. A clean right hand put Helenius out cold in the seventh round.
Joshua gave a tentative in the beginning even as Helenius attempted to get him on the back foot by fighting aggressively but Joshua built up his attack with jabs leaving the crowd restless. By the third round, boos echoed around the arena,
Joshua won with a right hand that sent Helenuis dropping heavily, ending the fight at once. Joshua celebrated by leaving the ring and embracing former UFC Champion, Conor McGregor. With this victory, Joshua improves his record to 26 wins and three loses.
Speaking to DAZN after the fight, Joshua said “people need to leave me alone, this is my time in the ring. Let me keep doing what I want to do.”
Commenting on Wilder fight he said “my back’s gone. I’m carrying this heavyweight division to the top.”
