U-17 AFCON: Burkina Faso Eliminates Golden Eaglets

Burkina Faso snatches the world cup ticket from Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets.

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets were eliminated from the Under-17 AFCON 2023 after losing 2-1 to Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals in Algiers.

This result means Nigeria will not represent the continent at the U-17 World Cup later this year. Burkina Faso will be rounding out the quartet of African countries, alongside Senegal, Mali and Morocco.

The Golden Eaglets were more dominant at the beginning of the game, but were undone by their own lack of precision and the exceptional performance of Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper.  Only a few minutes into the game, Charles Agada tried for a goal at close range, only to the denied by the keeper.

The Junior Stallions went into a 2-0 lead over the Golden Eaglets thanks to Aboubacar Camara. However, Abubakar Abdullahi pulled one back for Nigeria midway into the second half, bringing the score line to 2-1.

Unfortunately, the Golden Eaglet’s efforts were not enough to overcome the deficit. Burkina Faso heads to the semifinals where they will play Senegal.
