According to Calgary Police Service (CPS), a 19-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in northeast Calgary on Tuesday.
“At approximately 3:45am, Tuesday, June 25, 2024, police were called for reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on southbound Stoney Trail North of McKnight Trail N.E.”, reads a police statement.
Police said before the collision, they were notified of two males who witnesses described as walking into traffic, allegedly trying to stop vehicles. “At that time, a 2010 Cadillac CTS4, driven by a 25-year-old-man, was traveling in the far-right lane of southbound Stoney Trail N.E.”
Police believes the 19-year-old entered into the vehicle’s path and was hit. He was transported to the hospital in a critical condition, but has now died.
The second pedestrian, a 13-year-old male was not injured and is not facing any criminal charges. Police also said the driver, who remained at the scene is also not facing any criminal charges.
Investigators do not believe do not consider speed, alcohol and drugs a factor in the incident.
