Meta’s Twitter, Threads App, logged ten million users in its first seven hours, according to Mark Zukerberg. The App is referred to as a “friendly” rival to Elon Musk’s Twitter.

The Threads App closely resembles Twitter, and allows for up to 500 characters. Some of the wordings of the app has been changed with “retweets” called “reposts” and “tweets” called “threads”.

Thread users will need an Instagram account to log in and can choose to follow the same account they follow on Instagram, provided they have also joined signed up on the app. Also, videos of up to five minutes can be posted on the Thread App. Users can unfollow, report, block and restrict.

On Thread, posts can be shared on Instagram and vice versa and can include links and photos. Users are able to restrict who can “mention” them and filter put replies to posts that contain specific words, according to Meta.

Meta says “our vision with Threads is to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas.” Although users can use the username as their Instagram account, they can change their profile specifically for Threads, if they so wish.
