Three children and three adults have been killed in a fatal shooting at a primary school in Nashville, Tennessee. The attack took place on Monday at the Covenant School a private Christian school for students between ages three and eleven.
The three pupils who died were all aged nine, while the adults were all over 60, according to the police. The pupils were identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney. The adult victims were identified as Cynthia Peak, Katherine Koonce and Mike Hill.
The suspect identified as 28-year-old Audrey Hale transgender had been an ex-student of the school. The officers said Hale had an assault rifle, handgun, as well as pistol and had a detailed map of the school, with entry points.
The police said Hale had been fatally shot by officers after they entered the building. Hale had left behind a manifesto, which the police are now reportedly studying. The police said Hale had no criminal record, and motive may have been “resentment.”
Reports by BBC says the police received the first call about the incident at 10:13 local time on Monday. The suspect reportedly drove to the school and gained entry by firing through one of the school’s locked doors.
The detailed report says a video shows Hale had on protective vest and fired shots on the ground floor of the school, before moving to the upper floor. As police cars arrived, Hale shot at them and one officer was injured by broken glass in the process. Police rushed in and shot Hale dead.
Police said they found a manifesto when they searched a nearby parked car and a detailed map of the plan, including entry and exit points at the school. The suspect had also conducted surveillance while planning the attack.
Upon searching the shooter’s home, more guns were found, including a sawed off-shotgun and a second shotgun said the police. Meanwhile, a social media message have emerged sent by Audrey Hale before the shooting, where she told her friends “one day this will make more sense.”
“I’ve left behind more than enough evidence. But something bad is about to happen.”
