Five people have been killed and seven injured, including two police officers after a bank worker opened fire on people in Louisville, Kentucky.
The gunman was identified by the police as 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon am employee of the Old National Bank. Police said the shooter livestreamed the attack as he opened fire inside a conference room during a morning staff meeting.
The five victims were identified as Thomas Elliot, 63, James Tutt, 64, Joshua Barrick, 40, Julianna Farmer, 45 and Deana Eckert, 57. Nine others were injured in the gunfire exchange between the shooter and the police. Among the injured was a rookie police officer, who was shot in the head. He was identified as Louisville Metro officer Nickolas Wilt, 26.
Sturgeon had been a full-time employee of the bank for close to two years. He had reportedly gotten notification that he would be fired from his job. Report by CNN says he left a note for his friends and family, signifying his plan to carry out the shooting at his work place. Although it is unclear when the message was found.
The gunman exchanged fire with the police and was killed in the shootout.
Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg described the shooting as “an evil act of targeted violence” when speaking to a press conference. “We will work together as a community to work to prevent these horrific acts of gun violence from continuing here and around the state”, he said.
