Calgary Police Arrests Suspects in Pair of Fatal 2022 Shootings

The arrests were made in the fatal Douglasdale homicide and another East village shootout.

Calgary police said suspects have been taken into custody and charges are pending in connection to two complex investigation into an Aug. 2022 shooting in East Village and another Dec. 2022 homicide in Douglasdale.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday and police said their identities will be revealed once charges are laid.

A fatal shooting which happened in the 200 block of Douglas Ridge Circle at around 8:30 am on Dec. 15, 2022, led to the death of 40-year old Ashley Aaron Mawdsley. According to Global News, police later found a burned out white 2022 Ford Expedition about 22 kilometers South of the site of the shooting.

On August 2, 2022, at around 12:40pm, the second shooting happened in the parkade underneath the Real Canadian Superstore in the 400 block of Sixth Avenue S.E. The shooting was non-fatal and no one was killed.

Police said that during the course of investigating, it was determined that both cases were tied to organized crime. In a statement made by Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta, he said “Despite both shootings being targeted, these offenders demonstrated a complete disregard for public safety and placed members of our community at risk of serious harm or death.”

“Both of these shootings occurred at times when people were going about their daily routines. The victimization of Calgarians caused by organized crime violence can have a devastating and lasting impact on innocent bystanders and the community as a whole.”

The police have asked anyone with information about the shootings to call police at 403-266-1234 or provide anonymous tips at Crime Stoppers.
