The Calgary Stampede has lost a legendary stallion after Grated Coconut passes away at his home on the Stampede Ranch near Hanna, Alta. The Champion bareback horse died at 27
Grated Coconut was a six-time world champion and six-time Canadian Champion. He was a rodeo bucking horse that was specialized in bareback bronc riding. He was inducted into the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame of the CPRA, the Canadian ProRodeo Hall of Fame of the PRCA and the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame of the PRCA-sanctioned Ellensburg Rodeo.
The Calgary Stampede Ranch retired Grated Coconut in 2010. While the stallion made Cowboys fearful, he was actually a gentle horse outside the arena. He interacted well visitors and toddlers rode on his back.
In a Facebook post, Calgary Stampede said “Grated Coconut’s longevity is testament to the care he received throughout his life along the rodeo trail and at the Stampede Ranch. It is there where he will be laid to rest, forever remembered and honored as truly one of the best.”
The Stallion passed away peacefully, said Calgary Stampede.
