The Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), on Wednesday issued a special air quality statement for the City of Calgary due to air pollution.
ECCC warned of elevated pollution levels while rating Calgary’s Air Quality Health Index at 7 on Wednesday night. According to the alert, elevated levels of air pollution were expected throughout the evening, but are expected to improve over the night.
According to ECCC, the air quality may cause people to experience increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children and seniors with cardiovascular or lung diseases, such as asthma, are especially at risk, said ECCC.
Environment Canada advises individuals to reduce strenuous outdoor activities if they experience symptoms such as coughing or throat irritation.
The air quality is expected to be at moderate risk throughout Thursday and Friday.
