World Champion Tobi Amusan has lost 100m Hurdles World title after finishing 6th in the final at the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Budapest on Thursday. She lost to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams.

Williams, 30, won the title in a season-best of 12.43s, while Amusan came 6th in 12.62s. Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn came second in 12.44s and USA’s Kendra Harrison came third in 12.46s.

Commenting after the game, Amusan told Journalists that it had been “a journey getting into the final”, despite what she has been through in the past few months. “I will be back stronger”, she told the reporters.

Amusan is hopeful that she will get her medal back next year. “Yeah, it’s a tough one; nobody likes to lose but considering what I have gone through in the past couple of months, I’m so grateful that I came out”, she said.

Recall that Amusan was cleared of doping violations last week and her suspension was lifted by Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). Last month, AIU had provisionally suspended the athlete for three missed whereabouts failures within a 12-month period. The AUI had announced that “Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation of three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.”

Despite the loss, Amusan still retains her world record of 12.12s. She set the record at the 2022 World Athletics Chmapionships in Oregon.
