South Africa has withdrawn from the competition to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, stating concerns that they would need to present a “rushed presentation to FIFA.

South Africa was one of the four countries bidding for the tournament, but the South African Football Association (SAFA), says it will focus on putting together a bid to the host the 2031 tournament instead.

“We felt it was better to present a well-prepared bid for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup and ensure we put our best foot forward, rather than producing a rushed presentation”, said SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao.

The withdrawal leaves the bid to three: joints bids from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, another joint bid from Mexico and the United States and an individual bid from Brazil.

The final decision for the host will be made on May 17, 2024. Spain currently holds the championship title, securing a 1-0 win against England in the 2023 tournament.
