Canada has been ranked the second-best country in the world in 2023, in a new analysis of 87 nations.
The 2023 Best Countries rankings was conducted by U.S. News, communications company WPP and the University of Pennsylvania ‘s Wharton School. The ranking, according to U.S. News reflects the “perception of 87 countries based on a survey of more than 17, 000 global citizens, with respondents tying countries to dozens of different attributes within 10 subrankings that include power, cultural influence, heritage and social purpose,”
In this year’s ranking, Canada has taken the second place, after Switzerland. Canada secured positions in the top five in three additional subrankings, including quality of life. The ranking also states that Canada ranks first for several attributes, including racial equity.
Switzerland is ranked no. 1 for the second consecutive year and sixth overall, thanks to its perceptions of safety. The small European nation outperformed others in the “open for business” subranking.
Meanwhile, the United States holds fifth position, a slight drop compared to its 2022 ranking. The U.S. secured the no.1 ranking in three subrankings: entrepreneurship, power and agility.
Canada ranked fifth in entrepreneurship.
The Best countries ranking is a global metric that seeks to “examine a nation’s worth beyond hard metrics.”
