Calgary Man Charged with Manslaughter in Relation to 2022 Death of Toddler

Calgary Police Service (CPS) has taken a man into custody in relation to the death of a toddler that happened in 2022.

According to the police, “at approximately 2:15am, on Thursday Sept. 29, 2022, we were called to a residence located in the 0 to 100 block of Bannister Manor S.E., for reports of a toddler in medical distress. The child was transported to hospital by EMS, however, life-saving attempts were unsuccessful and the two-year-old girl was declared deceased.”

After extensive investigation by the Homicide Unit and an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death was deemed a homicide and the victim has been identified as Olivia Hayden of Calgary.

Police says they arrested one man on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in relation to the incident. Police have said manslaughter charges are pending. However, the man’s name will be publicly released when he been formally charged.

“The accused and Olivia were known to one another, and this was not a random incident”, said the police.

No further information about the incident are available at this time. Police are asking anyone with information to call 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
