Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Tops List of Europe’s Best Under-23 Dribblers

Spanish professional footballer, Lamine Yamal, @laminyamal who plays as a right winger for Barcelona has secured the top spot in the rankings of Under-23 dribblers across Europe’s top five leagues.

The 16-year-old, who has been with the senior squad this season has been setting records when it comes to dribbling. Yamal secured the top spot in the ranking, surpassing star players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Luca Koleosho.

According to statistics from the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post, the Barcelona winger heads the list with a remarkable 56 dribbles in his 11 La Liga appearances. He averages 6.0 dribbles per 90 minutes.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli is second on the list with a 65 dribbles which is 4.9 attempts per 90 minutes. Other players in the top five include Burnley’s Luca Koleosho, Napoli’s Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Girona’s Savio Moreira.

The ranking according to CIES, is calculated from Wyscout data, “the index used was obtained by multiplying the frequency of successful dribbles in domestic league matches, the success rate of dribbles attempted, as well as the sporting level of the matches played.”

The CIES says the rankings only includes footballers who played at least 450 domestic league minutes in current season.
