Canadian Ice dancer, Nikolaj Sørensen is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault in 2012 by Canada’s Officer of the Sport Integrity Commissioner, according to reports by USA Today.
Citing an obtained report made to both OSIC and the U.S. Centre for SafeSport, USA Today reports that an American figure skating coach and former skater made the complaint about the alleged assault that occurred in Hartford, Connecticut.
The woman was reportedly 22 at the time of the incident. According to the reports, Sørensen, then 23, held her down against her will on a bed after a party at a condominium near Hartford, Conn. “He pinned me down with his left arm over my collarbone. He pushed down hard on my collarbone, making me gasp for air the moment he inserted his p*nis into my v*gina and covered his right hand over my mouth”, says the woman in the report which was obtained by USA Today.
“All sound at that point became virtually inaudible and it felt like I would suffocate under the pressure of his arm on my collarbone and chest. I pushed my arms against his hips to try to get his p*nis out of me and I was struggling to breathe. At this point, I feared for my life and let my body go limp as I lay there and he r*ped me.”
USA Today’s reports says the woman remained silent for years and never came forward to police or sporting officials out of fear that she would be blamed. The statute of limitations for the action has since expired.
Title IX attorney and Olympic gold medalist Nancy Hogshead, who founded Champion Women, a non-profit legal advocacy organization for girls and women in sports, will be representing the woman, reports USA Today.
Sørensen, now 34 is a Danish-Canadian ice dancer who competes for Canada with his skating partner, Laurence Fournier Beaudry. Sørensen is an eight-time Grand prix medalist, a five-time challenger medalist and the 2023 Canadian national champion.
