Nigerian Striker and CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala @asisat_oshoala has left Spanish club FC Barcelona Femini to join the US National Women’s League team, Bay FC.
Oshoala joins Bay FC on a contract through the 2026 season with an option of a third year with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team. In a statement posted on Bay FC official website, Lucy Rushton, Bay FC General Manager said “to have the opportunity to add a player of Asisat’s quality, experience and winning pedigree to our roaster is an exciting and important day for the club and the NWSL.”
“She brings a top-class mentality to the field combined with pace and technical ability that allows her to lead the line, while also giving those players around her the license to be creative and thrive in space. Asisat is a proven goal scorer at the most elite levels of World football, and she comes here to continue that with Bay FC”, said Rushton.
At Barca,Oshoala scored 117 goals in 162 appearances. She was first African woman to win the UEFA Champions League Final in 2021 and the first to score in the Champions League Final in 2021. She was nominated for Ballon d’Or twice and has won 14 trophies all together.
Confirming the transfer, Oshoala said “As I bid farewell to this incredible team and the city that has been my home for the past 5 years, I am filled with mixed emotions. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to wear the @fcbfemeni jersey and represent this prestigious club.”
