Kamaru Usman has responded to claims that his knees were injured during the UFC 294 open workout.
Kamaru Usman and Khmazat Chimaev will battle for a title shot in the middleweight division at the UFC 294 on Saturday, which takes place at Etihad Arena on Yas Island. Usman, a former longtime welterweight champion stepped in last minute, with only 10 days’ notice, for injured Paulo Costa.
Ahead of the intense face-off, Usman was doing an exhibition wrestling match against teammate Justin Gaethje, when he allegedly injured his knee, after landing a takedown. Usman has now put the rumors to rest and confirmed he didn’t “pop anything at all.”
He assured all MMA fans that he is fit to go for Chimaev in the co-main event of Saturday’s fight card. In a video on his YouTube Channel, Usman said “it just goes to show how crazy – people just jump on news and media.”
“And ‘Oh that must be true, that person said that and that person said that!’ Whoever started that, whoever said they heard a result, how could you have possibly heard what i said in front of thousands of people in a mall?”
“Were you next to us when you heard what I was saying? How stupid. Just dumb. And if my knee was hurt why would I get up and continue to hit mitts? Oh my God. People believe anything you put on the internet. Anything… whoever that was, stop it. Stop the clickbait, did not say that. Clearly I’m fine. Dummies.”
