Tornado Spotted in Central Alberta, Near Stettler

A tornado warning was issued by Environment Canada

 

A tornado was spotted east of Red Deer in Central Alberta on Wednesday afternoon. Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the Stettler area, including Botha, Donalda, Gasby, Nevis and Rochon Sands.

Environment Canada meteorologists tracked a severe thunderstorm that was producing a tornado north of Stettler, reports Global News. The weather agency said its preliminary classification shows it was a landspout, says the report.

The tornado was detected just after 4:30 pm, the funnel cloud dissipated around 5:00 pm. Environment Canada dropped the tornado warning around 5:01pm.

Report says the thunderstorm picked a lot of dirt from farmers’ fields and was visible from several kilometers away. The cloud was very dark in color and formed a long curve toward the ground.
