Oprah Gail Winfrey is an American talk show host, television producer, actress, author, and media proprietor. Born on January 29, 1954, she is best known for her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.
The Oprah Winfrey Show aired for 25 years from 1986 to 2011. The show was the highest-rated daytime talk show in American television history and was syndicated in over 100 countries.
Nicknamed “Queen of All Media”, she was the richest African-American of the 20th century and was once the world’s only black billionaire. Winfrey landed her first radio job while still in high school and by 19 she was a co-anchor for the local evening news.
In 2008, she showed her full support for Barack Obama, with her endorsement estimated to have been worth around one million votes during the Democratic primaries. In the same, she formed her own network, the Oprah Winfrey Network @owntv. In 2013, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
Working in media, @oprah was both the youngest news anchor and the first black female news anchor at Nashville’s WLAC-TV (now WTVF-TV). In addition to her talk show, Winfrey has also acted in films such as “The Color Purple” and “A Wrinkle in Time,” and has produced several successful television shows, including “Dr. Phil,” “The Dr. Oz Show,” and “Queen Sugar.”
Winfrey is also known for her philanthropic work, including the establishment of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa and the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, which provides support for education, disaster relief, and other charitable causes.
She has been recognized with numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the entertainment industry and her philanthropic work, including the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Primetime Emmy Awards. Oprah is widely regarded as one of the most influential women in the world.
