Michelle Obama is an American attorney and author. She was the first African-American woman to serve as the first lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017, as the wife of President Barack Obama.

Ms. Obama was born in Chicago, Illinois, U.S, January 17, 1964. She is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. In her early legal career, she worked at the law firm Sidley Austin where she met Barack Obama.

Subsequently, @michelleobama worked in nonprofits and as the associated dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago as well as the vice president for Community and External Affairs of the University of Chicago Medical Center.

As the First lady, she served as a role model for women and worked as an advocate for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity and healthy eating. Ms. Obama supported American designers and was considered a fashion icon.

In 2009, Ms. Obama was named Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of the Year. In 2020, she topped Gallup’s poll of the most admired woman in America for the third year running. Some of her initiatives as first lady included advocating on behalf of military families, helping women balance career and family, encouraging national service, and promoting the arts and arts education.

As an author, Obama wrote American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America, which is based on her experiences with the garden and promotes healthy eating.

She once said “I want to leave something behind that we can say, ‘Because of this time that this person spent here, this thing has changed’. And my hope is that that’s going to be in the area of childhood obesity.” This was about her administrative-wide initiative, which she names Let’s Move.
