Gabrielle Monique Union-Wade is an American actress born October, 29, 1972, in Omaha, Nebraska. She began her career in the 90s with several appearances on television sitcoms before she landed supporting roles in 1999 teen films She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You.
In 1991, she gained prominence for her role in Love & Basketball, then Bring it On. Since then, she has starred in various movies including The Brothers, Daddy’s Little Girls, City of Angels, Breaking in and so on. Union started starring in lead roles in 2013, as the lead character in BET drama series Being Mary Jane which earned her a NAACP Image Award.
Asides from being an actress, Union is a published author. She has written four books, two of which is a memoir and two children’s book. She wrote We’re Going to Need More Wine (2017); You Got Anything Stronger? (2021); Welcome to the Party (2020) and Shady Baby (2021).
Union is a multiple award winning actress and has been nominated for several others. Among her several awards is the 2003 American Black Film Festival Award for the Rising Star Category; BET Comedy Awards in 2005, for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Box Office Movie, for her role in deliver us from Eva; Teen Choice Awards (2019), Choice Action TV Actress category for LA’s Finest.
The multiple award winning actress was the first celebrity ambassador and creative advisor for the nail polish company, Sensationail. She is the owner of Love & Blessings, a plus size clothing line. The owner of Flawless, an hair care brand, owner of Vanilla Puddin a wine she launched in 2014.
Union is an advocate for survivors of assault and importance of therapy.
