UEFA Announces New Women’s Champion League Format

The governing body also approved the creation of a second European competition for the women’s club.

UEFA has announced that there the Women’s Champions League will be expanded and will have a new format from the 2025/26 season. The new format will see the group stage turned into an 18-team league phase where each team plays three home and three away matches, followed by knockout rounds.

Additionally, UEFA approved the creation of a second European competition for women’s clubs starting from the 2025/26 season. The Champions League is currently the only UEFA tournament for women’s teams, while there are three men’s competition.

Although no further details were confirmed, the move aligns with the new format for the men’s Champions League which will be introduced from next season and will have 36 teams organized into one league with each playing eight games.

Presently, the Champions League format has 16 teams competing in the group stages before the knockout stages. The team were divided into four groups.

The governing body said more details will be released on Dec. 4.
