Calgary Police Service (CPS), have charged two people after a spree of attempted carjackings in Northeast Calgary on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024. The police said a man and a woman are facing a total of 17 charges.
According to a Tuesday news release by the CPS, at approximately 4:15am on Sunday Feb. 4, 2024, a man was trying to drive out of the parking lot of a convenience store located at 5260 Falsbridge Gate N.E., when a dark-coloured Ford F150 blocked his path.
The police said the driver of the F150 approached the victim’s car with what appeared to be a shotgun and assumed control of the vehicle. The victim fled the vehicle into the nearby store and the suspect was unable to start the car due to inability to operate a standard vehicle and left the area in the F150.
Then, thirty minutes later, a woman clearing snow from her vehicle was approached by the F150 in the 0 to 100 block of Rundleson Way N.E. Police said the woman quickly locked herself in the vehicle and fled in her vehicle when she saw the driver of the F150 approach her with a gun.
Later, at approximately 5:10am a man sitting in his vehicle in the 6000 block of Pinepoint Drive N.E. two people approached a vehicle, and a male carrying a shotgun demanded the victim exit the vehicle. The driver was able to escape on foot and the male with the shotgun and a female entered the vehicle. The suspects reportedly were unable to start the vehicle and left the scene in the F150.
The police found the F150 near the intersection of 26 Avenue N.E. and 56 Street N.E. The driver and passenger were not present, and the area was contained. The two suspects were located around 6am with the help of the Canine Unit.
Levi Barrett, 21 and Emma Jessup, 21, of Calgary both face several charges including robbery with firearm, theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a valid operator’s license. Both suspects will appear in court of Friday, Feb. 9, 2024.
