Team Canada dominates the World Cup ski Cross as Reece Howden and Hannah Schmidt produced double gold medals on Saturday.

According to the Canadian Press, this marked the “first time in eight years of racing at Nakiska Ski Resort that Canadians topped both the men’s and women’s podiums in a single World Cup.” Reece Howden won his first FIS Ski Cross World Cup of the season and Hannah Schmidt won her second.

“I really would like to thank all the volunteers who did an amazing job working really hard”, said Howden. “I’m supper happy with the way the team skied today. Jared’s been pushing hard, he didn’t have the best of luck today but everybody’s firing and I’m just really happy.

“To be able to perform in front of friends and family is unreal. I had a lot of fun today”, said Howden. “My dad’s right over there, the family’s here and every heat I just got more confident and more confident – that’s a big part of it”, added Howden.

Schmidt also attested to being happy to perform in front of family. “Having friends and family down at the finish when you cross a line, there’s no other feeling I would say. Our team is one of the strongest nations out there and to be able to train with them and race with them, it’s awesome”, Shcmidt said.

A second World Cup is scheduled for Sunday at the resort west of Calgary at 12:15 MST – 20:15 CET.
