One Dead Following Altercation in Southeast Calgary

The Calgary Police Service (CPS), say one person has died following an altercation in southeast Calgary early on Monday morning.

According to a news release, on Monday Sept. 2, 2024, at approximately 5am, police received reports of multiple individuals involved in a disturbance outside of the Portico Lounge, located in the 1800 block of 35 Street S.E.

When officers arrived, the found evidence of an altercation and signs that someone may have been in medical distress. A while later, they received reports that a severely injured man was dropped off at the Peter Lougheed Centre, located in the 3500 block of 26 Avenue N.E.

Unfortunately, the man reportedly succumbed to his injuries. Police say an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024.

“While the investigation is still in its early stages, officers believe that the man was likely injured during the disturbance outside of the Portico Lounge. Officers are currently searching for evidence at the scene, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the area for CCTV footage. It is believed that multiple witnesses have not yet come forward to police.”

CPS is asking anyone with information about the disturbance or how the man was transported to hospital to call 403 266 1234 or drop anonymous tips on Crime Stoppers.
