A mental health center for Calgary youth and children, called The Summit: Marian & Jim Sinneave Centre will open on Monday.
According to a news release from Alberta Health Services (AHS) the facility will provide mental health services to Albertans 18 years old and under, including no-cost therapy sessions and services to help manage acute and escalating mental health symptoms.
“The new center will support about 8,000 patients and families every year”, said the statement. “The Summit will provide young people with new and enhanced mental health services, all in one place, augmenting and integrating existing services provided by AHS and community-based partner agencies.”
The Summit will work hand in hand with the University of Calgary, making it one of the most research-intensive community-based mental health facilities for young people, said AHS. “The Summit will provide young people with new and enhanced mental health services, all in one place, augmenting and integrating existing services provided by AHS and community-based partner agencies.”
The government plans to dedicate $10million of the Budget 2023 to the Summit annually, for operating expenses. The Summit was built by AHS in partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation (ACHF) through fundraising efforts and donations.
The Summit will offer free, walk-in therapy sessions for children, youth and families, from 10a.m to 10p.m seven days a week.
