Ukrainian, Kenyan Artists Collaborate to Paint Nairobi Triptych Mural

The stunning triptych was painted along Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi by street artists from both countries.

Street artists from Kenya and Ukraine create a magnificent mural together on the side of Phoenix House along Muindi Mbingu Street, Nairobi.

This is the work of the “The Wall Project” which consists of a collection of artists drawn from several countries including the two represented in the art, reports Kenyas.co.ke. The wall is the last of five mural-symbols already presented in Vienna, Berlin, Marseille and Brussels.

Kenya is the first African country to have the Mural which was painted on March 10, at the country’s capital. The paintings contained artworks portraying the Kenyan and Ukrainian flags side by side, and showcasing the idea of relations and synergy between different cultures.

The Wall symbolizes resistance, stability, and armor that fences off the civilized world from war.” The project’s title also refers to the Pink Floyd album “The Wall”, which tells the story of a hero fenced off from the whole world behind a wall, who must challenge his inner demons.

Speaking to the Kenyan media, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova said “The murals are our response to Russian brutal aggression on the cultural front in the civilizational war, which Russian president Vladimir Putin has launched.”

“The policy of destruction and elimination of Ukrainian identity is one of Russia’s key elements in the war against Ukraine.” She further went to say this will be the beginning of friendship and a “shared future” between two countries.

The Wall is a project initiated by Ukrainian Institute and agency for cultural development Port. The opening event of the mural will have a special guest, Tvorchi, a Ukrainian electronic duo set to represent Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, reports Kenyan Press.
