Louis Vuitton Names Pharrell Williams New Creative Director of Menswear

The music producer will succeed the Late Virgil Abloh as Louis Vuitton’s creative director of menswear designs.

French Fashion brand, Louis Vuitton has named American record producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and fashion designer, Pharrell Williams @pharrell as its new menswear creative director.

The fashion brand  @louisvuitton confirmed the news in a tweet saying “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome @Pharrell as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.”

In a statement, the brand describes Pharrell as “a visionary whose creative universes expand from music, to art, and to fashion.” The 49-year old will replace Virgil Abloh who died in 2021, aged 41, after a private battle with Cancer.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton,” said Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO. “His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter,” said Beccari.

In the past, Williams has collaborated with sportswear designer Adidas and luxury brands Moncler, Diesel, and Chanel. He co-founded the Japanese streetwear label Billionaire Boys Club in 2003.

Williams who came to fame in the 1990s has won 13 Grammy Awards and was the judge on popular television singing competition, The Voice. The collaboration by Louis Vuitton with Pharrell suggests the brand’s links with pop culture and streetwear designs will continue.
