King Charles III has given the honorary title of Colonel of the Irish Guards to Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales. The title was previously held by her husband, Prince William, who was the Irish Guard’s first Royal Colonel for more than ten years.
Prince William will now be the Colonel of the Welsh Guards. According to the Royal Reporter, Richard Palmer, “The Princess of Wales is to become Colonel of a Regiment for the first time in a shake-up of military patronages by the King.”
“Kate will take over from her husband, Prince William, as Colonel of the Irish Guards, while he becomes Colonel of the Welsh Guards.” Also, Queen Consort Camilla has been appointed the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, a role held by Prince Andrew until January when he was stripped of military connections and royal patronages.
Furthermore, Buckingham Palace announced that the King’s first official Birthday Parade, Trooping of Color, will be held on June 17, 2023. This will be King’s first one since ascending the throne.
