Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa “G.W.O.A.T” Shields  @claressashields dominated Maricela Cornejo  @maricornejoboxing on Saturday at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, where she defended her undisputed middleweight championship.

Shields won with a shutout unanimous decision (100-89, 100-90, and 100-90). In the first two rounds, Shields out landed Cornejo, and continued to dominate the fight landing rights here and there.

Shields has won two Olympic gold medals and professional titles at super welterweight, middleweight and super middleweight.

During the fight, Shields was unable to get a knockout. “I pressed for the knockout, I went for the knockout many times, but Maricela is just tough”, Shields told DAZN during her post-fight interview.

Shields was originally scheduled to fight a rematch with Hanna Gabriels, but Gabriels was replaced by Maricela Cornejo due to a failed VADA drug test. Shields thanked Cornejo for taking on the fight on short notice.

“I want to thank Maricela and her team for taking this fight on 10 days’ notice. She’s not a last0minute replacement that I could just walk through. She got my attention with some of those right hands.”
