The Calgary Police Service (CPS) homicide unit is currently investigating the death of a man in a hotel in Shawnessy.

According to a social media post by CPS, officers were called to a hotel in the 0-100 block of Shawville Road S.E., around 3 p.m., on Monday, March 25, for reports of a shooting. A man was reportedly found in one of the suites on the fourth floor and was declared dead.

Acting Staff Sgt. Juno Brady told reporters on Monday that one person is in police custody and the CPS homicide unit is currently investigating the incident. “With something like this, I think that the whole hotel right now is potentially a crime scene”, said Sgt. Brady.

“The parking lot as well, so we’re not entirely sure where we’re going to find any evidence or anything like that. We’ll await our homicide detectives, they’ll make that final determination as to how long we’re holding the hotel or the rooms for.”

With the investigation still ongoing, CPS will release more information as available.
