Steven Gerrard was sacked as Aston Villa manager only eleven months after taking over. “Aston Villa can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect”, said a statement.

“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future”.

Aston Villa won only twice in the Premier league this season, leaving the club only one place above the league relegation zone.

Before he was sacked, he told BBC Match of the Day “Inconsistency has cost us, that’s the position we find ourselves in. I took over the team in a very similar situation. We’ve tried to recruit to get us out of that situation. I’m a fighter- it’s in my DNA. I will continue to fight unless I’m told differently.

The 42-year-old manager was left with no choice to fight and was sacked shortly after.
