OceanGate, the diving company responsible for the Titanic tour, has confirmed that all five passengers aboard the submersible are dead. This was confirmed after a massive search by the US Coast Guard.
The Titanic Submersible went missing on Sunday, after it set out to on an expedition to see the wreck of the Titanic at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean, nearly 13, 000 feet below land. The expedition was priced at $250,000 per person.
Contact with the vessel was lost about one hour and 45 minutes into its descent. After extensive search, the tail cone of the Titan was found on the sea floor, about 1,600 feet away from the bow of the Titani and other debris nearby.
According to Rear Adm John Mauger of the US Coast Guard, the five passengers on board died what was believed to be a “catastrophic implosion”, based on the pattern of debris found.
Aboard the vessel was British Billionaire businessman Hamish Harding, Pakistani father and son, Shahzada and Suleman Dawood. OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, and French Navy Diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet.
