Following Nigeria’s victory against South Africa in Bouake, Nigeria will now be facing the African Cup of Nations Host, Cote d’Ivoire in the finals.
On Wednesday, Nigeria’s substitute Kelechi Iheanacho scored to give Nigeria a 4-2 penalty shootout win over South Africa. On the other hand, Sebastian Haller helped the hosts secure a win against the Democratic Republic of Congo with 1-0 victory in Abidjan same night.
Speaking on the victory, Nigeria’s coach, Jose Peseiro said “Our team has a huge state of mind. The team fights together, there are 25 of us (in the squad and) it’s difficult to beat us. Deep down, thinking about that second cancelled goal and the South African equalizer, a lot of teams would have given up.”
“I am very happy, the players are happy, they deserve it, we deserve it, the Super Eagles deserve it, the Nigerian people deserve it.” Commending the Banfana Banfana players for a well-played game, Peseiro said “I think it was very difficult to beat them. Huge congratulations to Hugo Broos, who put this team together. They played well.”
Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire will face-off on Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Stade Olympique Alassane Outtara in Ebimpe, outside Abidjan.
