The Calgary Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred at a gas station in Bridgeland Saturday afternoon.

According to a news release by the police, “at approximately 2:45pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, it is believed that a male pedestrian fell and was lying in a parking lot at Centex Memorial, located at 12 Fourth Street N.E.

“While the man was lying there, police believe a light-colored minivan, driven by a man in his 20s, reversed out of a parking stall before pulling forward and turning northbound. When the minivan pulled forward, the front passenger side of the vehicle rolled over the pedestrian.”

Police said the minivan stopped and the driver opened his door and looked around and underneath his vehicle. He then closed the door and pulled forward, running over the pedestrian with the rear wheels.

After that, the minivan turned eastward into the alley at the rear of the parking lot and stopped for a short time before turning north onto Edmonton trail. Police believe the driver of the minivan was unaware of the pedestrian until the collision took place.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious, life-altering injuries. Police are currently investigating impairment on the part of the pedestrian as a possible factor in the collision. “Excessive speed is not considered to be a factor”, police said.

Police continue to investigate and have several inquiries ongoing. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to call 403-266-1234 or drop anonymous tips on crime stoppers.
