Diving into the heart of African Pride Magazines’ conversation with Dombarry, he gave an insight into his journey as a singer/songwriter and what music means to him. His inspiration stemmed from a passion for music and arts which gave birth to an endless desire to be a creative artist.

Describing his creative process when writing a song, he said “I love melodies, sweet melodies and I strongly think it’s what catches most people’s attention when they hear a record on the radio, it depends on the flow, I sometimes start with melodies, other times I get ideas from conversations, then I pitch a catchphrase to play around with the title. Besides these, I also create out of person and people’s experience.”

Shifting gears, we explored Dombarry’s creative process in more detail. From the initial spark of the idea to the final arrangement, Dombarry shares insight into how he created the unique soundscapes of one of his favourite songs. He said “Heart! The lead single of my new album! I was flirty with a lady at a retail store where I used to work, after she walked away, I used that simple experience to write that song on the spot, same day!”

To many musicians, they explore their unique themes, crafting the most melodious rhythm for their fans. This is no exception for Dombarry as he seeks to inspire and spread hope through his music.

Reflecting on a poignant moment, Dombarry recounts a personal experience from his musical journey where a fan wrote to him on how his music has affected their personal life. He said “From this recent project, a fan wrote me and said she wasn’t going to listen to the entire album but she just thought she should listen to (Stay With Me), she suddenly realized the song exposed how she made a mess of her past relationship and it made her ex to apologize for the way she treated him. It touched my heart because I wrote that song from a place of hope, and it goes on and on how my music is an agent of strength, hope and love.”

From navigating the competitive music industry to overcoming a writer’s bloc, Dombarry has faced adversity with resilience, creativity and determination. He said, “As a creative agent, you’re also a lover of the art so if my creative juice isn’t flowing, I just go back to the basics, listen to music as a fan over and over and over and over!”

For Dombarry, artists like MJ King of Pop, Lionel Richie, Tracy Chapman, Dolly Parton, Billie Ocean and R. Kelly have inspired his musical style. When asked what inspired his latest album, “Best You Can Give”, he responded “My artistry Journey.”

Looking ahead, Dombarry gives us a sneak peek into what lies in the future. He said, “The best is yet to come!” With new projects in the works, he envisions creative collaborations, features, music soundtracks and acting.

Giving his two cents to upcoming artists and how they should navigate the industry, he said “You’ve got to really love music to want to make music and you’ve got to be willing to sacrifice your time to build your craft and learn from the greats.”

Further giving insights into his personal life, he shared his family’s opinion on his career choice. For his family, they are absolutely proud of his artistry and shows him total support. He revealed that his nieces and nephews love his music, and to him, “that is priceless and amazing every time he thinks about it.”

Delving deeper on a personal level, Dombarry affirmed that he enjoys watching movies, but also plays soccer on occasions with friends. As for the question on whether he has ever written a song that made him think, “What was I thinking writing this”, he simply answered “Yes.”
