The Maryland Learner’s Permit Tests has adopted Yoruba Language as one of the new nine languages the test will be offered.

The nine added languages brings the total to 17 languages in which the test is offered. According to CBS News reports, the test is currently offered in English, Spanish, French, Nepali, Korean, traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.

Yoruba, alongside Tagalog, Amharic, Russian, Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Portuguese, Farsi and American Sign Language, have now been added for the test. Drivers will begin to have the new options in September.

Chrissy Nizer, an administrator with the Motor Vehicle Agency in Maryland, USA, says the languages were selected based on the US census data. “Improving accessibility for the driver’s knowledge test and study materials is critical to serve Maryland’s linguistically diverse population”, said Nizer.
