Wizkid Becomes First Nigerian Artist to Score Diamond Certification in US

Musician Wizkid, has scored his first-ever diamond certification in the US for working with Drake.

Afrobeat Superstar, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, becomes the first Nigerian to score a diamond certification in the United States. The diamond certification was awarded to “One Dance”, a song by Drake, featuring Wizkid.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), awards the diamond certification to songs that have gone platinum 10 times. The announcement was made by the RIAA on Thursday, when they updated their data to reflect the certification.

The song has reportedly sold 10million units in the United States. The song has reached number one in 15 countries including the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, New Zealand, and the United States.

“One dance” was released in 2016 and it features Wizkid and British singer, Kyla. The artists co-wrote the dancehall and afrobeats song with its co-producers. It topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for 10 non-consecutive weeks, making Wizkid the first Nigerian artist to top the US Billboard Hot 100.
