Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Will Smith admits he knows his actions at the 2022 Oscars could affect the acceptance and success of his new movie, Emancipation. He wants fans to forgive him for his mistake and support the movie.
In Emancipation, a true life story, Smith played the role of Peter, a slave who “flees a plantation in Louisiana, after being whipped nearly to death, outwitting cold-blooded hunters as he makes his way North, where he joins the Union Army.”
Smith told Entertainment Weekly, “The only discomfort my heart has around that is that so many people have done spectacular work on this film. My hope is that my team is not penalized at all for my actions. I think (director Antoine Fuqua), and Cinematographer (Robert Richardson) and Ben and Chairmaine (Bingwa) – everyone has done such spectacular work.”
“I definitely lose a couple winks of sleep every night thinking that I could have potentially penalized my team, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that everyone gets seen in the light that they deserve.” @willsmith
Emancipation will stream on December 2 and will launch on Apple TV+ December 9.
