Angelina Jolie Rejected Working on ‘Casino Royale’ Because She Wanted to be Bond Herself

Jolie was also given a chance to be “Bond Girl” in 2006

Angelina Jolie reportedly rejected the role of “Bond Girl” because she wanted to be Bond herself instead of a sidekick in Casino Royale.

In 2006, when the producers of the James Bond franchise were in search of a new James Bond, they were also searching for a Bond girl, says Fandomwire. When Daniel Craig became the new face of the 007 agent, the producers wanted to find a heroine to pair with Bond.

Report says a personal invitation was sent to Jolie, where she was given the opportunity to skip auditions and be hired for the role. The American filmmaker and humanitarian reportedly declined and said she didn’t want to “become a simple bond girl.”

Speaking to Vanity Fair she said “It started with a call from Amy (Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures). She asked if I wanted to play a Bond girl. I said, ‘No, I’m not comfortable with that, but I would like to play Bond.”

Eva Green played the Bond girl in Casino Royale instead, for which she received the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
