Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen received a hero’s welcome from Galatasaray fans at the Istanbul Airport, Turkey on Tuesday.
Despite arriving at 3:30 am, Osimhen was met with cheers and chants from the fans. The 25-year-old was welcomed by thousands of fans, who were drumming and chanting his name.
Osimhen had completed a loan deal with the Turkish club, after an agreement was reached for his services for a year. A failed attempt to leave Napoli to join either Al Ahli or Chelsea, and the arrival of Lukaku meant Osimhen would have been inactive four months.
However, the loan deal signals the beginning of a new chapter for the Nigerian. The Turkish club will cover his salary €10M during the loan period. He also negotiated his release clause from Napoli to be €75M instead of €130M. This includes a break clause for January in case top clubs approach him over move.
The loan deal does not include any buy option or obligation clause.
Speaking to the Galatasaray fans, Osimhen said, “This is one of the best sets of fans in the world. It feels good to be here, and I am absolutely excited. Of course, I cannot wait to see them in the stadium, and I hear how they scream when I score. I am ready to give my best for them.”
Osimhen is expected to complete his medicals at the club, and an official announcement will follow soon after.
